Wednesday and Thursday Yuma Sector agents encountered and seized two vehicles with drugs.
Agents assigned to Yuma Sector’s Wellton Station seized 486 pounds of marijuana, valued at $252,600 on the morning of November. 12.
Agents patrolling near the Camp Grip area discovered nine abandoned, makeshift backpacks filled with marijuana. The marijuana was processed per Yuma Sector guidelines.
The next day agents assigned to Wellton Station seized 100 pounds of methamphetamine Nov. 13 worth an estimated $500,000.
The Wellton agents conducting traffic operations discovered the large cache of drugs after stopping a vehicle that attempted to circumvent the checkpoint on I-8 east of Yuma.
Following a canine alert, agents searched the vehicle and discovered a false compartment containing 79 packages of methamphetamine with a total weight exceeding 100 pounds.
The vehicle, driver and drugs were taken to Wellton Station for processing.
