CBP officers seize more than $364K in hard drugs

Customs and Border Protection officers at Port of Nogales’ Dennis DeConcini crossing seized nearly 42 pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine during separate weekend smuggling attempts.

Officers referred a 22-year-old U.S. man living in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico for further questioning and a secondary inspection of his vehicle Dec. 5. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs inside one of the vehicle’s doors, officers found more than 13 pounds of cocaine worth $138,000.

On December 6, officers apprehended a 26-year-old woman from Mexico after a canine alerted to nearly nine pounds of meth, worth more than $26,000, concealed in the undercarriage of her vehicle.

Officers on December 7 found more than 19 pounds of cocaine, worth in excess of $200,000, inside a vehicle belonging to a 22-year-old Tucson woman after a drug detection canine alerted officers to the vehicle’s firewall.

Officers seized all drugs and vehicles, and turned the subjects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
