Fatal two vehicle collision on Irvington Road

On Saturday December 13, 2014, at approximately 9:54 a.m., San Xavier District deputies responded to a collision involving two vehicles at Irvington Road and Hotel Drive. According to witnesses, the incident occurred when a red Dodge Durango ran the red light at a high rate of speed and collided with a white Ford utility vehicle near the intersection.

The 51-year-old male driver and 55-year-old female passenger of the Ford, were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Dodge, identified as 65-year-old Manuel Carpio, was transported to a local trauma center. Mr. Carpio succumbed to his injuries at approximately 1:15 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Department Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this incident.
