Tucson Police arrested a man on Monday morning as he was committing a violent home invasion at gunpoint a duplex in the 4600 block of East Douglas Street. Police were responding to a report of a possible home invasion in progress.
A neighbor called 911 after hearing a male screaming and demanding money from the connecting residence. The caller advised that an adult female, her 14-year old daughter and her 5-year old son were the only residents of the home.
Officers arrived and contained the area. They made contact with an adult female at the front door who advised everything was ok, but appeared in distress. The officers had the female exit the home and she was followed out by her 14 year old daughter. She then advised officers that a male had forced his way into the home and was armed with a handgun. She further advised the suspect was still in the residence and her 5-year old son was also still inside.
Officers began making announcements, ordering the suspect to exit the residence. He exited after several minutes and claimed to be a resident of the home. He was taken into custody without incident. Officers found the 5-year old inside safe and unharmed. They located the suspect’s handgun hidden in the couch of the residence.
Detectives learned that the adult female resident opened her back door after hearing noises in the back yard. She was met by the suspect who was armed with a handgun and ordered her back inside the home. The suspect demanded money and property from the female. As police arrived at the home, the suspect ordered the resident to answer the door and state that everything was ok. No one was hurt inside the home but the suspect was bit in the hand by the family’s dog as he entered the back yard. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
