The victim immediately contacted the Tempe Police Department and provided critical information to the dispatcher in a “play by play” format. At one point – and to add insult to injury – the victim informed the Tempe Police call taker that the suspect was feeding dog treats to her dogs in an attempt “make friends.”
Using the information provided by the victim, Tempe Police patrol officers flooded the area and surrounded the home within a secure perimeter. The suspect – a male later identified as Aaron C. White (4/10/92) – later detected the camera while inside the home and attempted to flee out of the back gate to the alley; apparently scared off by having realized he had been filmed. Immediately upon exiting the gate, he was given a warm holiday greeting by numerous Tempe Police officers and seeing he was surrounded, he gave up peacefully.
White was taken into custody without incident and was still wearing the gloves he used in an effort not to leave fingerprints inside the residence.
Due to the mobile app, the information provided by the victim, the calm demeanor of the victim, and the quick response by Tempe Police, no one was injured in this incident and White was not able to remove any property from the home. Likewise, the two dogs inside the home were found unharmed and well fed.
White was booked into the Tempe City Jail on one count of Burglary in the 2nd Degree.
