YCSO investigating hit and run fatality – witnesses being sought

Just before 6:30 AM Monday morning, YCSO deputies were called to the 1100 block of Old Chisholm Trail in the Prescott Country Club regarding an apparent dead body in the roadway. EMS personnel confirmed that a 70-year-old female was deceased. Deputies believe the victim, who resides in the Prescott Country Club, had been hit by a vehicle. Passerby’s initially discovered the body but did not see any of the events leading to her death. Luggage belonging to the victim was found nearby and it appears she was heading to the Maverick Country Store on Highway 69 to catch shuttle transportation.

Detectives from the YCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau were called to the scene and began searching the area for witnesses. A resident in the vicinity of the incident recalled hearing a “thud” type noise just after 6 AM and then saw a vehicle with “round headlights” pull into his driveway, back out, and leave in the opposite direction. The resident was unable to provide further details and detectives are considering that the driver of this vehicle may be involved or have information as to what occurred. Detectives would like to speak with this person immediately as they are considered a person of interest.

It is believed the vehicle was travelling west on Old Chisholm Trail when the victim was struck.

Detectives continue to gather evidence from the scene and are requesting anyone with information regarding the fatality to call the Sheriff’s Office at 928-771-3260 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1800-932-3232. Callers to Silent Witness remain anonymous and become eligible for a cash reward when information leading to an arrest is reported directly via the Silent Witness hotline. Please remember any information, even if seemingly insignificant, can be important to detectives as they develop leads.

The name of the victim will be released once next of kin notification has been completed.
