DPS looking for reckless Tucson driver who abandoned Jeep downtown

On Friday, January 16, 2015, at about 8:30 am, a K9 officer with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), observed a vehicle driving southbound on Trico/Marana Rd., in the Marana area, passing other vehicles in a reckless manner and nearly causing collisions. The Marana Police Department was told of the reckless driver and a DPS officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, described as a maroon Jeep passenger vehicle with possibly two occupants. A DPS Ranger helicopter was called to assist and helped officers by following the vehicle and keeping officers updated as to the location of the reckless driver.

The Jeep continued to drive in a reckless manner, carelessly passing other vehicles and running red lights. The Jeep worked its way into the Downtown Tucson area where it went into a parking garage located just north of the Pima County Courthouse.

Officers from DPS and Tucson Police Department secured the area around the parking garage and began a search. The Jeep was found abandoned in the parking garage. As the search continued a witness told officers that possibly two suspects were seen going into the downtown library. The library and garage area were placed on lockdown while a search was performed. The suspects were not found. The lockdown of the library and parking garage was lifted and at 9:39 am and officers were advised to discontinue the search.

The Jeep was removed from the parking garage, while the investigation is continuing.
