Tucson man killed in collision with bus

On February 20, 2015, at 6:37 p.m., officers from Operations Division East responded to the area of East 22nd Street and South Brown Avenue, for a vehicle collision involving a city bus and an SUV. Tucson Fire responded and immediately transported the driver of the SUV to University of Arizona Medical Center.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the driver, 67-year-old Daryl Leinenbach, passed away from his injuries.

Tucson Police Traffic detectives determined that a Sun Tran bus was eastbound on 22nd Street and had pulled over to the bus stop near South Brown Avenue. As the bus was stopped, a 1991 Chevy Blazer was traveling eastbound in the same lane. The driver of the SUV did not stop and rear-ended the bus without breaking. The initial investigation revealed that excessive speed did not appear to be a factor in the collision. The driver of the SUV was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the bus and one passenger were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
