Scottsdale fitness center, hiking trail purse thief behind bars

On February 24, 1015 suspect, Anna Abee, was arrested on numerous felony charges ranging from Burglary of a Vehicle to Aggravated Identity Theft. The arrest culminated a several month investigation by detectives with the Scottsdale Police Identity Theft and Auto Crimes section.

During that investigation, detectives identified Abee as the primary suspect in four Scottsdale cases and at least ten others in Phoenix, Peoria, Surprise and Mesa. The investigation revealed that Abee would scan fitness centers and hiking trailheads for females leaving their purses in the car. She would then break the window and steal the purse. Once she had the purse she would immediately go on a spending spree with the victim’s credit and debit cards.

In a number of the cases she used the victim’s information to apply for new credit cards and other services. The monetary loss in the Scottsdale cases alone totals in excess of ten thousand dollars.
