Drugs seized in Yuma traffic stop

On Sunday, March 8, 2015, at approximately 7:20 p.m., a Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Interstate 8 near Mile Marker 65 outside of Dateland, Arizona.

During the stop, the deputy requested assistance from the United States Border Patrol K-9 Unit and the Yuma County Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had concealed compartments which contained packaged bulk methamphetamine. Approximately 20.5 pounds of methamphetamine was seized with a street value of $61,500.00.

The driver, Hector Fabian Ortiz, 35, and the passenger, Denisha Sandoval, 26, were both arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for Transportation of Dangerous Drugs.

Ortiz was also booked for an unrelated outstanding felony warrant issued out of the Arizona Department of Corrections for parole violation.
