On April 16, 2015, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Pima County deputies responded to check the welfare of a female in the 4900 block of West Spoonbill Road. It was reported she was being held against her will by her husband. When deputies arrived, they knocked on the door and no one answered.
Deputies tried calling the residence with no response. A short while later, a female came from the residence and told deputies she was assaulted by her husband, 61-year-old Jon Wagus. The female also informed the deputies he was in the residence armed with a weapon.
The Pima Regional SWAT Team responded to the incident location. SWAT negotiators tried to communicate with Mr. Wagus for several hours with negative results. Detectives from the Night Detective Squad obtained a search warrant for the residence and a robot was sent in to locate Mr. Wagus. Mr. Wagus was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
