Cochise County S&R saves cellphone caller

On Thursday April 16, 2015 at approximately 8:23 pm the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call from a 23 year old male subject who stated that he was lost and thirsty.

The caller advised that he was in the country illegally and became lost, also stating that he was not injured but he was alone. The caller advised he was wearing a black sweater, blue jeans, and white shoes.

The 9-1-1 call was plotting on specific coordinates that indicated the subject was off of State Route 90 near mile post 301.

Search and Rescue responded to the area and were able to locate the subject at approximately 11:30 pm. The subject was evaluated and found to be extremely dehydrated and possibly going into kidney failure.

A medevac helicopter was launched and traffic was stopped on Highway 90 at the checkpoint for a short time allowing the helicopter to land and airlift the subject to a Tucson hospital for treatment.
