U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a 19-year-old woman May 12 for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 40 pounds of cocaine through the Port of San Luis.
Officers referred Elidia Margarita Espero-Obeso, of Victorville, California, for a secondary inspection of her Mitsubishi SUV. After a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs in a false floor compartment, officers removed 16 packages of cocaine worth more than $432,000.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicle, and referred Espero to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
