TPD Investigates Eastside Neighbor Shooting

The Tucson Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting 25-year-old Denario Thompson that occurred Saturday evening on the east side of town. On June 6, 2015, just before 9:00 p.m., officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 8600 block of East Placita De Las Tarascas.

Upon arrival, officers located Mr. Thompson on the ground with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering aid using their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) until Tucson Fire could arrive. TFD transported Mr. Thompson to Banner University Medical Center where he later died that evening from his injuries.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Night Detective Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that Mr. Thompson and a neighbor became involved in a verbal argument in the neighbor’s garage. The altercation eventually turned physical and during the altercation Mr. Thompson pulled out a handgun. The neighbor/homeowner also pulled out a handgun and gunfire was exchanged.

Mr. Thompson was struck multiple times by gunfire. The homeowner was uninjured during the incident. Detectives spoke with the homeowner involved, as well as several witnesses who were at the scene when the shooting took place. From the initial investigation, it appears that the homeowner was acting in self-defense. Once the investigation is fully completed, the case will be presented to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call 88-CRIME.
