On June 1 members of the Casa Grande City Council unanimously voted to name Karl Montoya the new Mayor Pro Tempore. Montoya replaces Mary Kortsen, who served as Mayor Pro Tempore for a year. By City ordinance, a Mayor Pro Tempore is selected by the City Council every year to serve a one-year term.
The duties of the Mayor Pro Tempore are similar to those of a Vice Mayor, in that he/she conducts official city business in the absence of the Mayor. Montoya has been a member of the Casa Grande City Council since 2007 and is currently serving his second term.
Mayor Pro Tempore Montoya is a native of Casa Grande. He serves as a youth advisor for the Youth Commission, Safety Officer for Casa Grande Little League, President of Casa Grande Silent Witness and is a Posse member for the Pinal County Sheriffs Office.
Montoya attended Casa Grande Union High School and went on to attend Central Arizona College and is currently employed by Fertizona as an agriculture consultant.
