An autopsy report was recently completed on 22 year old Skyler Clem, of Florence, by the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office. Thr Medical Examiner has listed the Manner of Death as “Accidental” and the Cause of Death from “Morphine Intoxication.”
Autopsy results showed Skyler Clem had 585 ng/ml which is nearly 7 ½ times the maximum dosage prescribed by a medical professional. The therapeutic range of morphine when prescribed by a medical professional is in the range of 10-80 ng/ml.
Clem had been arrested on Friday, April 24th, 2015 at 6:27 p.m. by a Florence Police Officer for two outstanding warrants. The first warrant was for Failure to Appear related to a DUI offense issued by the Casa Grande J.P. Court with a bond amount of $3,275 and the second warrant was for Failure to Appear related to a second DUI Offense issued by the Gilbert City Court with a bond amount of $1,000.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, at 7:14 p.m. Skyler was brought to the Pinal County Jail and booked for the warrants. The Sheriff’s Office reports that Skyler was processed through the normal booking process which included being screened by detention staff and healthcare professionals. Skyler denied having any health condition which would require attention while in jail, he denied recently ingesting any drugs and or alcohol, he denied having any experience with the withdrawal affects from drugs and or alcohol and he understood he could request healthcare at any time while he was in jail.
After processing, Skyler was put into a cell with other inmates which was supervised by detention officers.
Skyler laid down and went to sleep along with the other inmates in the cell.
On Saturday morning, when the other inmates woke up, Skyler was found unresponsive.
Detention and medical staff immediately began to provide emergency medical care. He was rushed to Anthem Hospital where further medical care was provided but he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Detectives from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Bureau responded and took over the death investigation.
Upon examining his body, there were no outward signs of trauma or foul play. All of the inmates Skyler had contact with were interviewed and were consistent with their account of the evening. All of the inmates were photographed, to include close up shots of their hands. The cell was examined and there were no signs of foul play.
Interviews were completed with the mother of Skyler and a close family friend. They told detectives, Skyler has a past history of drug abuse including both prescription and illegal drugs.
Skyler Clem was cooperative throughout his arrest by the Florence Police Department and during his time at the Pinal County Jail.
