Arizona Representatives React To SCOTUS Obamacare Ruling

Arizona representatives reacted to the ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in King v. Burwell. The Court voted 6-3 to uphold the federal subsidies contained in the .

“SCOTUS got “Grubered,” and “Legitimizes Obamacare Deceit & Lies,” according to Rep. Paul Gosar. “As the Supreme Court itself admitted, state run exchanges were excluded from federal subsidies. Rather than uphold the law as written, the court majority rewrote the law again effectively undercutting the rule of law. Extending subsidies will continue to cover the fact that burdensome Obamacare regulations are making health insurance more expensive for all Americans. This ensures consumers will continue to find fewer choices and lower quality healthcare while having to pay higher premiums.” Gosar said that the decision, “will not save this horrendous law that has caused premiums to skyrocket. I remain committed to repealing Obamacare in its entirety and replacing it with an affordable, free market solution that ensures all Americans have access to quality healthcare.”

Matt Salmon stated that Supreme Court “may have upheld the legality of Obamacare, but it does nothing to stop health insurance premiums from skyrocketing, healthcare costs from continuing to rise, and the government’s role from continuing to expand.

“Day after day, we continue to see the harmful consequences that Obamacare has inflicted on millions of Americans, and there is no disputing that this law must be fully repealed and replaced,” continued Salmon.

Rep. Trent Franks called the decision “disappointing, but not the end of the discussion. The very simple fact of the matter is Obamacare violated the Origination Clause of the Constitution by implementing the single largest tax hike in U.S. history with a Senate-originated bill. Unfortunately the Supreme Court has thus far refused to consider this reality.”

“ObamaCare’s effects have been an unmitigated disaster. With more uncertainty on the horizon, this intrinsically flawed system will ultimately collapse upon itself unless policy makers repeal or drastically change it. I will not give up my opposition to ObamaCare and will continue to seek ways to replace our current system with health care reform that is fostered through the private sector,” concluded Franks.

Senator Jeff Flakes stated, “I am disappointed with today’s ruling and will continue to fight for reforms that use competition to drive down costs and improve quality. Only then will Americans truly have affordable care.”

Rep. Raul Grijalva stated, “The Supreme Court once again validated the right of every American – regardless of which state they live in – to have quality health coverage at a reasonable price. I hope that with this decision, the Republican Party recognizes the will of the American people to see this law stand; to see their loved ones receiving the care they need at a price they can afford; and to see an end to the reckless political antics that are below the dignity of the offices that many of these Republican policymakers hold. It’s time for them to move on.”

Rep. Martha McSally stated, “Families around Arizona continue to struggle under rising health care costs due to the Affordable Care Act. Business owners are being buried under mounds of paperwork and new mandates. Employees have seen their hours and wages cut while still lacking the affordable, quality care they need. While today’s ruling keeps intact subsidies under the law, the fact remains that the Affordable Care Act is fundamentally broken and hurting families across our country.”

“We need a better solution that lowers the overall cost of health care and empowers patients and families to choose the plans that are right for them. We need reforms that focus on health outcomes driven by choice, transparency, and flexibility, not the mandates, penalties, and taxes contained in the Affordable Care Act. These patient-centered reforms will actually lower the cost of health care, ensuring it is affordable and available, while making sure those who cannot afford care have the opportunity and resources to get covered,” said McSally.
