Arpaio Increases Waterway Patrols

Seven Deaths This Year have the Sheriff Frustrated, Arpaio is Calling for Change

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department is gearing up for what historically is a busy time at area lakes and the Salt River by increasing patrols in and around heavily visited waterways starting this 4th of July weekend and continuing throughout the rest of the summer.

With all the Fourth of July festivities, and the heavy attendance at the lake, Sheriff’s deputies and posse will be focused on Lake Pleasant.

“I hate to say it, but someone will probably die this weekend on the water and I hope it is not you,” said Sheriff Arpaio. “By being cautious and aware, the chances of you and your loved ones becoming involved in one of these potential tragedies are lessened,” said Sheriff Arpaio. “With the increased visibility of my deputies and posse, that should send a constant reminder to all to be careful.”

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Lake Patrol deputies have the responsibility for law enforcement services in the recreational areas of Tonto National Forest and Lake Pleasant Regional Park. This area includes, but is not limited to: Saguaro, Canyon, Apache, Bartlett, Pleasant, Horseshoe Lakes as well as the Lower Salt and Verde
River recreational areas.
