Yuma Man Arrested For Attempted Murder

On Saturday, July 4, 2015, at 3:27 a.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3000 block of South Fortuna Avenue in reference to a shooting disturbance that occurred on the eastbound Fortuna Road exit.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that the suspect and two victims had been traveling in the same vehicle from a bar in town to their home in the Foothills when a verbal argument occurred. The male victim/driver stopped his vehicle and told the suspect, who was the front seat passenger, to exit the vehicle and walk home. When the suspect exited the vehicle, he walked around to the driver’s side and continued to argue with the victim. The victim also exited the vehicle and was arguing with the suspect outside of the vehicle when the suspect brandished a handgun. The victim then got back in to his vehicle and, while he was driving away, the suspect fired multiple rounds at the vehicle, striking the driver side and rear passenger doors.

Both victims left the area and contacted law enforcement. The suspect went to his home located in the 11400 block of E. 26th Street, where he was contacted and taken into custody.

The suspect, Thomas Brown, 26, of Yuma, was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for Attempted DV-1st Degree Murder and Attempted 1st Degree Murder.
