DPS detectives have arrested 26-year-old Ryan Dillon on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the July 4 death of Maggie Ruiz of Gilbert.
At around 9:35 p.m., a fatal-injury collision occurred on the westbound entrance to U.S. 60 from South Val Vista Drive. A motorcycle carrying two riders turned onto the westbound U.S. 60 onramp from South Val Vista Drive. Ruiz, who was the motorcycle passenger, fell off the motorcycle and was subsequently run over by 2014 or 2015 Toyota Corolla. The driver of the Toyota left the scene without stopping.
Dillon was booked into the Maricopa County Jail July 7. DPS is still requesting the assistance of the public in locating a grey or silver 2014 or 2015 Toyota Corolla sedan believed to have front under carriage or front-end damage. The driver of this vehicle is encouraged to contact the DPS Duty Office and provide a witness statement. The Toyota is believed to have been involved in a minor secondary collision at the initial collision scene.
