Phoenix Woman Dies In Pinal County Jail

A 49-year-old female inmate at the Pinal County Jail was found unresponsive in her cell just after 2 a.m. on July 8. The inmate was found during a routine cell check by PCSO detention staff. Detention staff immediately began emergency lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived. The inmate never regained consciousness and was pronounced deceased by a physician at 2:29 a.m.

The deceased inmate is Brenda Hazboun, a 49-year-old Phoenix resident.

The inmate was arrested by an officer with the Arizona Department of Public Safety at 7:30 p.m. for Driving while Impaired by a Drug and Driving with an Illegal Drug in her System. She was brought into the Pinal County Jail at 11:25 p.m. and cleared medically to be booked by Pinal County Healthcare Nurses.

During the booking process, she admitted to using methamphetamines prior to her arrest.

At midnight, she was placed into a cell alone and she was checked every thirty minutes by a detention officer.

At 2:04 a.m. she was found to be unresponsive. Detention and medical staff immediately began to perform CPR. The Florence Fire Department responded and continued with the emergency medical care until she was pronounced deceased.

Detectives from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Bureau responded and will be investigating the death. At this time, there is no sign of foul play. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Once those findings are available.
