TPD Investigates Santa Rita Park Homicide

Last Wednesday July 8, 2015, Tucson Police officers responded to Santa Rita Park to investigate the report of a fight. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female on the ground with obvious signs of head trauma.

Tucson Fire transported the victim to Banner University Medical Center where medical staff advised her injuries were life-threatening. While at the park, officers located the other individual believed to be involved in the fight. That person was identified as 34-year-old Georgina Ochoa.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Gang Unit responded to the park to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that the two adult females knew each other and were at the park together when the altercation took place. It is unclear what started the fight, but detectives learned that Ochoa was the one who physically assaulted the victim, causing her head injury. Ochoa was booked into the Pima County Jail on one count of Aggravated Assault w/ Serious Physical Injury.

On July 9, 2015, the victim passed away from her injuries. She has been identified as 32-year-old Stephanie Juaquin. Next of kin has been notified. This incident continues to be investigated as a homicide and will be presented to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review. Further details/charges will be provided when they become available.
