On Monday, July 20, 2015, in the early morning hours, three victim drivers told Yavapai County deputies their vehicles were shot at while travelling on Highway 71 near Congress Way, Congress, Arizona. None of the victim’s were injured.
The first driver indicated hearing a loud crack on her driver’s side window around 5:15AM while driving east on Highway 71. The result was shattered glass with glass fragments striking her face and neck. She was not injured and drove the Congress Fire Station to report the incident. The second driver reported a projectile striking his pickup truck just above the left rear passenger window around 5:25AM. The third driver indicated his vehicle’s passenger side view mirror had been hit while travelling on Highway 71 in the same area.
During the investigation, deputies learned there were at least two additional victims. One man reported his unoccupied vehicle’s right passenger window was shot out while parked in front of the Congress Motel. He could not pinpoint a time of occurrence. Additionally, the vacant building next to the Congress Grocery store had a completely shattered front glass door apparently due to a similar projectile.
At this time it has not been determined if the projectiles are from a firearm or high powered pellet gun.
Based on the information from the victim drivers, it appears the shots came from the north side of Highway 71 in the brush area.
None of the victims saw a suspect or noticed suspicious activity related to the incidents.
