Elderly Woman Rescued From Swift Water

On Wednesday July 29, 2015 at approximately 3:15 pm, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised that a 62 year old female was driving north on Cascabel Road at mile post 20 when she attempted to cross a flooded wash. The driver did not know that the flooding had cut the road and there was a three foot drop into the water.

The vehicle was pushed approximately 200 yards down stream, and the force of the water rolled the truck onto its side trapping the female and her dog inside.

Cascabel Fire personnel and civilians went into the water and rescued the female who was then transported by HCI ambulance to Benson Hospital and treated for severe hypothermia.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue warns untrained persons to not attempt these type of rescues. We know it is hard to wait, but it your life worth it?

Remember Turn Around, Don’t Drown, and please stay safe out there.
