Perhaps Leandro Sanchez Ramirez thought he would quickly get out of jail when he was arrested last week by police and booked into the downtown 4th Avenue Jail on a probation violation. Unfortunately, at least as far as Ramirez was concerned, that’s not what happened. Instead, a conscientious fingerprint technician at the MCSO ran his prints and noticed that no one by that name had a rap sheet; hence, he shouldn’t be on probation.
So the technician sent the fingerprints along to the FBI, which quickly determined the inmate’s real identity to be Devan E. Leonard, wanted by the FBI for a drive-by shooting committed on February 4, 2014, not to mention a murder/dismemberment from December 16, 2014.
According to the federal warrant, Leonard and another suspect were on the Navaho Reservation when they purchased drugs from a man before shooting and killing him before dismembering and burning the body. Leonard is now in the custody of the Arizona FBI.
