DPS called after Miller strikes Douglas
Today, during a meeting of the Arizona State Board of Education the Chair Greg Miller allegedly assaulted Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas claiming that she was “out of order.” This was the second time, Miller, who has a reputation for being extremely gruff has had a run-in with the diminutive Superintendent.
According to ADE spokesman Charles Tack: “President Miller physically assaulted her by grabbing her arm during the meeting. This is the second time this has happened, with a previous incident occurring at an earlier meeting.”
Tack continued, “The Superintendent should not be subjected to bullying, intimidation and physical attacks from the Board President as she attempts to do her duty on the Board.”
Just last week, the Superintendent had to clear her calendar due to her mother’s death, and had announced the plans for her mother’s memorial service today.
Miller has fought Douglas over control of the employees of the State Board of Education.
It was while Douglas was discussing that issue with Miller that he grew impatient and attempted to grab the microphone away resulting in the assault.
