Ducey Diddles: Sunday’s Comic

Arizona is known for the poor quality of its governors. Doug Ducey has kept the tradition in tact. This month, he placed signs strategically in the lobby of the state Executive Tower selling his unworkable education funding plan.

From the Arizona Republic:

But in an interesting intersection between architecture and politics, the posters are right outside the office of state Treasurer Jeff DeWit, who has taken major Ducey dissing for criticizing the plan, saying it will cost the schools billions of lost dollars in the long run.

DeWit laughed and said he’s grateful he doesn’t have to walk past them to get to work.

“Thankfully, there’s a secret back entrance,” he said of his office. But, he mused, maybe the governor will array more posters in the basement tunnel that leads to the underground parking garage at the tower.

“I’m struggling to truly make sense of this,” DeWit said, noting he was called out in a Breitbart News article written by a D.C. London staffer. That’s the firm owned by Sean Noble, who runs cover for Ducey when the governor’s policies draw fire. “It’s truly bizarre.”

And then there’s…..

Arizona ISIL Recruiter Posted Shooting Range Videos On Facebook

In August of 2014, Ahmed Mohammed El Gammal, aka Jammie Gammal, 42, of Avondale, Arizona, was recruting ISIL members. Gammal shared his “expertise” during that period through video footage with Facebook “friends.”

Jammie Gammal was indicted this week for providing and conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), as well as for aiding and abetting the receipt of military-type training from ISIL and conspiring to receive such training.

“As alleged, Ahmed Mohammed el Gammal actively touted online his support for ISIL and its terrorist ways, ultimately meeting and assisting a New York college student to travel to Syria to obtain military training from ISIL,” said U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara of the Southern District of New York.
