On Sunday, August 23, 2015 at about 3:00am, a Phoenix Police officer, was driving a marked police Tahoe on 67th Avenue just north of Indian School Road when a white sedan raced past him northbound at a high rate of speed. The officer then drove to position himself behind the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop.
Near 4600 N 67th Avenue, the occupants abruptly pulled over and opened fire on the officer, striking the vehicle numerous times.
The officer managed to exit his vehicle and run alongside for cover as the car coasted to a stop near the side of the road. The suspects then fled eastbound on Hazelwood Drive. The officer was not struck; however, one round came through the windshield narrowly missing where the officer’s head was. It appears two different caliber weapons were used by the suspects.
