A Pima County 23-year-old driver, Chakiel Da-Loun Hicks-James, was killed in an accident that ocurred on Monday, at approximately 8:12 p.m. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call about a collision which had occurred near Picture Rocks Road and Sandario Road.
Deputies found the incident location at Picture Rocks Road and Pelto Path.
Upon arrival they found two vehicles were involved. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. They determined a black pickup truck travelled westbound on Picture Rocks Road and a white Honda 4-door was going eastbound. The Honda veered into the westbound lane causing a head-on collision.
The 50-year-old female driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. No obvious signs of impairment were noted on her.
The Hicks-James, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt. Speed is considered to be a factor in the incident. The investigation continues.
