Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo has been named the state AFL CIO’s “Elected Official of 2015.” Gallardo has represented West Valley District 5 since his election in 2014.
The award recognizes Gallardo’s “commitment and work on behalf of labor; advocating for good working conditions including safety, employee rights and fair pay, and his stands on issues important to the labor movement,” according to the organization. In 2006, Gallardo co-chaired the successful Minimum Wage Ballot measure.
Gallardo a current member of AFSCME Local 2384 said, “I grew up in a union family. Many in my family were and are union members, especially in the building trades. This is where my heart is, advocating for working people and their families.”
