Benson Highway Pedestrian Dies From Injuries

A Tucson pedstrian, who walked into the path of a vehicle travelling on East Benson Highway on September 16, 2015, just before 9:15 p.m., passed away from his injuries on September 17.

Tucson Police department officers responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle at 225 East Benson Highway. Members from the Tucson Fire Department were first on scene and transported the adult male pedestrian to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries prior to police arrival. This morning, the male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They were able to determine the pedestrian was walking westbound along the frontage road for I-10 between South Park Avenue and South 6th Avenue. The driver of a 2005 Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on the frontage road in the curb lane when the pedestrian stepped into the lane of travel and was struck by the vehicle.

The driver remained on scene and was not injured.
