On October 13, 2015, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Pima County deputy observed an accident at the intersection of North Reno Avenue and West Calle Arizona. He learned a 14-year-old female was riding on the back of a van, driven by a 16-year-old female.
The female was standing on the bumper holding onto the luggage rack. When her hat blew off her head, she either jumped or fell off the van, hitting her head on the road. She was transported to Banner-University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The Sheriff’s Department Traffic Unit responded to investigate the incident. The 16-year-old driver of the van was arrested for Endangerment and released to a parent. Speed was not a factor in the incident.
