On October 29, 2015 at approximately 6:15 p.m., Tucson Police Department officers responded to the 5000 block of South Tucson Boulevard for the report of a single vehicle roll-over collision. Upon arrival, officers met with members of the Tucson Fire Department who were already on scene.
Officers learned there were two adult males in the vehicle at the time of the collision. The driver of the vehicle was transported to Banner University Medical Center with minor injuries. The passenger was pronounced deceased on scene.
Tucson Police Department Traffic Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that a 1972 Chevrolet pick-up truck was traveling southbound on Tucson Blvd from eastbound Irvington Road. It appears the driver of the truck lost control of his vehicle in the light rain and over corrected his steering. The vehicle then struck the raised median and a large Palo Verde tree. During the collision the vehicle over-turned and the passenger was ejected.
Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision. The vehicle was equipped with lap belts; however neither of the occupants were buckled. The deceased male has been identified as 19-year-old Michael Anthony Van Bogaert. Next of kin have been notified.
