Fatal Pedestrian Collision At 5th & Pantano

The Tucson Police Department is investigating an early morning fatal collision involving a pedestrian on the east side.

On November 15, 2015, just after 6:00 a.m., officers from Operations Division East responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on North Pantano Road near East 5th Street. Upon arrival, the officers met with members from the Tucson Fire Department who were on scene rendering aid to the 59 year-old male pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The identity of the male is being withheld, pending next of kin notification. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was not injured.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They were able to determine the driver of a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser was northbound on Pantano Road in the median lane approaching a green light at East 5th Street. The pedestrian was crossing Pantano Road from east to west when he was struck by the vehicle.

It is unknown at this time if the pedestrian was in a crosswalk. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.
