The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a fatal shooting of suspected Circle K shoplifter, 46-year-old Gerald Ramon, that took place early Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., officers responded to the report of a shooting in a parking lot just west of the intersection of North Oracle Road and West Grant Road. Upon arrival, officers located Ramon with obvious signs of gunshot trauma and immediately began rendering first aid. Tucson Fire transported Ramon to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. The shooter remained at the scene of the incident and cooperated with investigating officers.
Detectives were able to determine that shortly before the incident, Ramon had entered the Circle K located at 333 West Grant Road and shoplifted items from the store. Multiple people witnessed the shoplifting and Ramon was followed. One of the citizens followed Ramon to a parking lot in the 400 block of West Grant Road. Ramon confronted the citizen by picking up a large log and holding it over his shoulder. The citizen then pulled out a handgun and shot Ramon as Ramon began advancing toward him.
Ramon later died at the hospital from his injuries.
Witnesses remained on scene and spoke with detectives. At this time, no charges have been filed against the citizen who discharged his firearm.
