The hiker who died in Grand Canyon National Park on Sunday has been identified as 49-year old Janell Mount of North Carolina.
At approximately 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 6, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call reporting CPR in progress in Bright Angel Campground near Phantom Ranch. Park rangers and other emergency personnel responded to the scene and continued CPR, however all efforts to resuscitate the hiker were unsuccessful.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
