At a press conference at Caswells Shooting Range in Mesa, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu called for Arizonans to arm themselves and take gun-safety courses in the wake of recent mass shootings and terror attacks.
Sheriff Babeu rejected calls for more gun control and advised residents to be prepared to defend themselves. Babeu with Chief Steve Henry encouraged citizens interested in purchasing a gun for the first time to consider a training class at a gun range like Caswell’s.
“We are strong defenders of our 2nd Amendment rights. We call for Arizona licensed concealed carry permit holders to step up and defend themselves, their families, and others, when faced with an armed attacker prior to law enforcement arrival,” said Babeu.
In the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, there have been numerous law enforcement leaders suggesting that responsible gun owners should carry their firearms when in public and be prepared to act in the case of a terrorist attack. The public discussion has led to a marked increase in those purchasing their first firearm. Firearms retailers and organizations such as Caswell’s, are prepared to offer gun safety and education classes to these first-time gun owners.
