Border Patrol Arrests Convicted Deported Guatemalan Sex Offender

TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Three Points Substation arrested a male Guatemalan national in the west desert near San Miguel, Arizona, on Jan. 10th for illegally entering the United States.

During a criminal history check, agents learned the man was convicted and sentenced to nearly nine months in Florida in 2007 of multiple sexual offenses to include crimes against a minor. After completing his sentence, the subject was deported to Guatemala. The subject is now awaiting criminal proceedings on charges of illegal reentry of an aggravated felon after removal.

Since October, Tucson Sector Border Patrol, has arrested several previously-convicted sex offenders, all of whom were attempting to reenter the United States illegally. Of those taken into custody, one subject was convicted of rape, another was convicted of juvenile sexual battery and another was convicted of indecency with a child – sexual contact. Tucson Sector Border Patrol continues to work closely with a multitude of federal, state, tribal and local authorities to ensure a secure, safe and protected border environment.
