Pima County Deputy Shoots Walgreens Robbery Suspect

Pima County Deputy Jay Korza, a 15 year veteran with the department has been placed on administrative leave after shooting a robbery suspect at the Walgreens located at 7114 N. Oracle Road.

At approximately 12:22 p.m. on Tuesday, Pima County deputies responded to a robbery call at the Walgreens. It was reported that an armed man robbed the pharmacy area of the Walgreens after demanding controlled prescription medication.

Deputies arrived to the location within two minutes. They found the suspect still in the store and subsequently chased him to the north east parking lot. Deputies claim they gave the suspect verbal commands throughout their encounter with him, which the suspect ignored. During the foot pursuit, authorities claim that there was a perceived threat, and one deputy shot the suspect with a rifle.

The deputy immediately began life saving measures on the suspect with the help of his Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK). The suspect was transported to Banner University Medical Center for treatment and is currently in critical condition.
