‘Operation Sidewinder’ Nets Drugs, Firearms, Stolen Vehicles

Southern Arizona – the Arizona Department of Public Safety (ADPS) Border Strike Force Bureau conducted a four-day operation from February 4-7, 2016 which resulted in 12 traffic stops, 40 arrests and the seizure of 3,743 pounds of marijuana. Also seized during the operation were two firearms and three stolen vehicles.

The 40 arrests made in the operation included 34 citizens of Mexico, 5 citizens of the United States, and 1 undocumented person from a country other than Mexico or the United States. The firearms seized were an assault rifle and a handgun.

The ADPS Border Strike Force Bureau’s operation covered two counties, Pinal and Maricopa, and was assisted by Homeland Security, ICE, Border Patrol, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and others.

ADPS Captain Dave Nilson said, “The successes that the Border Strike Force is experiencing, especially during this latest operation, is a testament to the great partnerships that have been built between ADPS and other law enforcement agencies.”
