The City of Tempe is accepting applications through March 18 for the position of Presiding Judge of the Tempe Municipal Court.
The Presiding Judge is responsible for the leadership and management of all professional, legal and judicial functions of the Tempe Municipal Court. This includes compliance with the administrative authority of the Arizona Court System.
Qualified applicants must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and must have been a member of the State Bar of Arizona in good standing for a minimum of five years. A minimum of five years’ experience as an appointed or elected full-time judge is required.
Current Presiding Judge MaryAnne Majestic, who has led the Tempe Municipal Court since 2010, is retiring. She has served as a judge in Tempe since 1994.
The Tempe Municipal Court has a staff of five judges and 33 staff, and is one of the busiest courts in Arizona. It includes a dedicated Veterans’ Court and Mental Health Court, as well as participation in the Maricopa County Regional Homeless Court.
