The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a sexual assault of a mother walking home from a store with her baby in the area of East Calle Arroyo Lindo and South Tucson Boulevard on March 2.
Just after 12:00 p.m., Tucson Police officers responded to the 2300 block of East Calle Arroyo Lindo reference a possible sexual assault. Upon arrival, they made contact with an adult female victim. The female advised she left a store in the area of South Tucson Boulevard and East Drexel Road and was walking home while pushing her infant in a stroller. The female mentioned she was near the wash area in the 2300 block of East Calle Arroyo Lindo when an unknown male approached her with a handgun. The male then walked the female and the infant to a nearby path where he sexually assaulted the female. The male fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. An extensive search of the area was conducted; however the male was not located. The infant was not injured. The female was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation.
Detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Adult Sexual Assault Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. The detectives conducted a canvass of the area, interviewed witnesses and collected evidence. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male with a dark complexion, late teens to early twenties, approximately 5’8’ to 5’10”, thin build and possibly had a thin mustache. The male might have been in the area of East Drexel Road to East Bilby Road and South Campbell Avenue to South Country Club Road between 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. that day.
Detectives are urging anyone with information about this incident or who this individual might be to please call 911 or 88-CRIME, if they wish to remain anonymous.
The investigation is ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
