Monday night, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Pima County deputies responded to a single vehicle rollover near Mokes Mile Trail and Sharon Road. When deputies arrived, they found a silver minivan on its side.
They made contact with the two occupants, who had severe injuries. The driver of the van, 47-year-old James Edward Cook, succumbed to his injuries and died on scene. The passenger was transported to Banner University Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation. They learned the van was travelling south on Sharon Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Mokes Mile Trail, but was going too fast. The van rolled causing the passenger to be ejected from the vehicle and Mr. Cook to be partially ejected. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.
