According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, sometime between 10:00 pm on Wednesday night, March 9th, 2016 and 12:40 am on Thursday morning, March 10th, 2016, a 68 year old male walking eastbound on Southern Avenue west of Meridian Road was struck by an unknown vehicle, which had also been travelling eastbound on Southern Avenue just outside Apache Junction.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene and has not been identified or located. The male pedestrian died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision.
Authorities report that there was evidence located at the scene that leads investigators to believe the suspect vehicle is white in color or has white paint somewhere on the vehicle. The suspect vehicle will probably have damage to the front passenger side and may have a lost a light (a headlight or fog light, etc) during the collision. The make, model and year of the vehicle are unknown. The vehicle could be a large vehicle, such as an Econoline type van or even a small passenger car.
