Cochise County Homicide Under Investigation

On Tuesday March 15, 2016 at approximately 7:30 am, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a man who was unresponsive in front of a residence in the 500 block of Sunset Road in Whetstone. The woman calling said that she came to the residence to check on a family member when she observed a male subject, who also lived at the residence, who was lying on the ground with a handgun by him.

The woman calling advised that the man may have shot himself, but she was not certain.

Sheriff’s deputies, and detectives responded to the scene and located the body of a 38 year old man who suffered obvious signs of trauma and was deceased. Sheriff’s Office personnel began processing the scene and canvassing the area to identify anyone who would have information about this incident.

As deputies were clearing the home, Animal Control officers were called in to remove a vicious dog in order for the investigation to continue.

Sheriff’s detectives said that the incident appeared to be a homicide and are following leads at this time to identify the suspect(s) in this case.

Victim identification is pending next of kin notification.

The body was transported to the Pima County Medical Examiners Officer for the completion of an autopsy and exact cause of death. The investigation is being continued by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
