Tucson Fire Displaces 4, Puppies Rescued

A fire destroyed a home in the 100 block of East Delano Street, displacing four residents of the home.

A call was made from someone in the home stating he could see smoke and flames in the house and then was able to evacuate safely.

The first TFD engine arrived on scene and confirmed heavy smoke from the eaves of the home.  Firefighters pulled a hose line to the front door and entered the home to begin searching for anyone and extinguishing the fire.  Additional firefighters on scene noticed 5 puppies on the porch of the house.  They moved the puppies out of the heavily charged area of smoke and gave the puppies oxygen via blow-by technique.

The interior crew reported poor visibility so they coordinated with the ladder crew to cut a hole in the roof, allowing the smoke to escape.  This increased visibility for the fire fighters and allowed them to better search the home.  Nine units consisting of 23 firefighters responded to the fire and controlled the fire 34 minutes after arriving.

There were no injuries reported by firefighters.  Five puppies and the mother of the puppies were all okay along with with the owners.

Investigators were on scene but were still in the process of determining the cause and origin of the fire. Red Cross was called to assist the four displaced people, which consisted of three adults and one teenager.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and the amount of damage has not been determined.
