At approximately 6:10 a.m. Wednesday morning, there was a one-vehicle fatal crash involving a 2006 Hyundai two-door sedan southbound on State Route 79 near Oracle. The driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, over-corrected then lost control of the car which rolled twice.
The driver, a female in her twenties, was ejected and pronounced deceased on scene. She was not wearing a seat belt. Two small children, including an infant and a two-year old, sustained minor injuries and were taken to UMC Tucson. Both were in car-seats that secured them in the vehicle.
“This young mother died and left two children behind because she chose not to wear a seat-belt,” said ADPS Sgt. Vernon Havens. “This death was completely avoidable.”
Investigators have not ruled out speed and distracted driving as factors in this crash.
