A two vehicle collision at the intersection of Oracle Road and Orange Grove claimed the life of one driver and sent the second driver to the hospital.
On March 25, 2016, at about 8:40 am. a Honda passenger vehicle, driven by Julie Begin, 46, from Tucson, was making a left turn from southbound SR 77 (Oracle Road) onto eastbound Orange Grove Blvd. A Dodge SUV, driven by Jennifer Ortiz, 31, from Tucson, was northbound on SR 77. As the Honda made its left turn it was struck on the passenger side by the Dodge. The Dodge rolled over, coming to rest upright. The Honda spun around, striking a utility pole. Both drivers were wearing safety restraints at the time of the collision.
Both drivers were transported by paramedics from the Northwest Fire District to Banner University Medical Center in Tucson. Julie Begin succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Jennifer Ortiz was treated for her injuries and released.
The investigation is ongoing and impairment is not considered a factor.
