Dispute Leads To Arrest Of Yavapai County Burglary Suspect

On March 19, 2016, Yavapai County deputies, were dispatched to the 19000 block of Antelope Road in Cordes Lakes regarding a dispute. During contact with 39-year-old Brian Dulany, a deputy noticed Dulany was standing intently in front of a vehicle parked on the property as if concealing something from view.

When the deputy looked inside the vehicle, he saw a “K2” brand bicycle matching the description of one of the bikes stolen from a Maggie Mine Road home he was investigating. Dulany claimed he purchased the bike for his son during a garage sale in the area. Further inspection by deputies confirmed it was the stolen “K2” bike. Additional stolen items were found in Dulany’s vehicle belonging to the victim. Dulany insisted all the items were purchased at the garage sale. The stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim as the investigation remained ongoing.

On March 17, 2016, a resident, in his 80’s, who lives in the 32000 block of Maggie Mine Road in Black Canyon City, called YCSO to report he had been burglarized. The resident, who had been out of state for several weeks, told the deputy he returned home to find his front door forced open and property missing. Stolen items included bicycles, coins, camera equipment, electronics and numerous power tools. One of the bicycles was described as a “K2” brand with a yellow frame and yellow colored side-walled tires. During the investigation, the deputy located tire tracks which were likely associated with an off road vehicle used by the suspect(s).

During follow-up, the deputy was able to closely match footprints obtained during the original burglary investigation with the soles of Dulany’s shoes. The deputy also found an off-road vehicle on Dulany’s property exhibiting a tire pattern observed on the victim’s land. Deputies could not locate anyone in Dulany’s neighborhood who sold the stolen property during a yard sale.

On March 26, 2016, a search warrant was obtained and served at Dulany’s Antelope Road home and at least 15 more items stolen from the victim’s home were recovered – including power tools, cell phones and a stereo system. Deputies also seized usable amounts of marijuana and related paraphernalia.

Dulany was arrested and booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including Burglary, Criminal Trespassing, Criminal Damage, Theft and Possession of Marijuana. He has since been released on a $7500 bond.
