On April 9th, at approximately 6:53 p.m., the Casa Grande Police Department responded to the intersection of Kadota Avenue and Saguaro Street after receiving a call of a hit and run collision involving a cyclist. Upon their arrival, Officers discovered a young female victim with severe injuries.
The victim was treated on scene and transported to Banner Casa Grande Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
Officers interviewed witnesses on scene who provided information leading to the description of the suspect vehicle. Additional information was received regarding the identity and location of the driver of the suspect vehicle. The suspect, 40 year old Casa Grande resident Christina Rascon, was located near her residence in the 1300 block of East 11th Street. Rascon’s vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Equinox, was found to have front end damage consistent with the collision investigation and she displayed signs of alcohol impairment.
Christina Rascon was arrested and transported to the Casa Grande Police Department where she was processed and transported to the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for booking. Charges of Manslaughter, Leaving the scene of a Fatal Collision and DUI are being forwarded to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office for review.
On the morning of April 10th, police made contact with the family of the victim and were able to identify her as 20 year old Emily Akins.
